Join us at Jaxon for live music from Astro James Friday, March 18, from 7-10pm
Known for his quirky personality and psychedelic live experience full of improvisation taking you on an adventure into the cosmos. Astro James s a singer-songwriter & guitarist from Dallas, Texas. His eclectic style is a psychedelic fusion of funk & blues.
In 2019 Astro’s musical journey began in Denton, Texas where he began writing songs with his friend Savion Perry and shortly after began playing at local house shows in a Grateful Dead cover band. This later became The Orange Sunshine Band. In 2020 Astro released his debut funky Halloween inspired single “Terrifying Nightmare” – reminiscent of early 70s Parliament Funkadelic.
Following the release of that single, one of his dreams was realized when he was joined on stage by jazz legend and personal hero Kermit Ruffins during his song “I Just Wanna Believe in Love Again”. Later, in early 2021 Astro joined Kermit in hosting a live stream fundraiser to help raise money through the Covid-19 pandemic for the historic Tremé Mother-In-Law Lounge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Astro recently released “Live at Deep Ellum Art Co.”, a NOLA flavored live album where he finds himself rethinking love and religion, full of funky grooves, introspective songwriting & soaring psychedelic guitar solos.
Astro is currently accompanied live by jazz fusion collective Celestial Clockwork & recording his first full length studio album with producer Robert Trusko.
